Model Output

Source Cell Outputs (From BUCShell)

The daily flows and loads that are generated on each cell in the basin are calculated and reported in the DAYFILES. The following constituents, including their units and abbreviation, are reported on a daily time step:

  • Irrigation demand (cm) [Irr]

  • Runoff (cm) [RO]

  • Concentration in runoff in ppm of:

    • Soluble nitrate nitrogen [RO_NO3]

    • Soluble ammonia nitrogen [RO_NH4]

    • Soluble organic nitrogen [RO_OrgN]

    • Soluble phosphorus [RO_P]

    • Sediment ammonia nitrogen [Sed_NH4]

    • Sediment organic nitrogen [SedOrgN]

    • Sediment phosphorus [SedP]

    • TSS [TSS]

    • BOD [BOD]

  • Percolation (cm) [Perc]

  • Concentration in percolation in ppm of:

    • Soluble nitrate nitrogen [Perc_NO3]

    • Soluble ammonia nitrogen [Perc_NH4]

    • Soluble organic nitrogen [Perc_OrgN]

    • Soluble phosphorus [Perc_P]

  • PDeficit (if P within the soil is not sufficient to meet plant uptake demand, the model will not restrict the P uptake, but will report the P uptake deficit).

Stream Routing Outputs (BLASRoute)

BLASRoute is responsible for the delivery of the daily flows and loads from the source cells to the reach network as well as the hydrodynamic in-stream routing.

To-Stream Routing:

The delivery of flows and loads to the reach network is done on a daily basis. However, for reporting purposes a raster GRID is created that illustrates the flows and loads generated on each cell within the basin on an annual average basis. The flows are straight forward as WAM does not use a cell to cell routing technique. Thus all flows that leave a source cell are delivered to a reach. Two grids are produced:

  • Ro: Runoff (cm) [RO]

  • Perc: Percolation (cm) [Perc]

The nutrient loads are reported based on their unattenuated values, i.e. the load actually leaving each cell; and also the attenuated load that enters the reach, i.e. once the overland attenuation has been accounted for. The following grids are produced:

  • Sedncel1: Sediment bound nitrogen annual average source load (kg/ha) [Sed_NH4+SedOrgN]

  • Sedncel2: Sediment bound nitrogen annual average load (kg/ha) attenuated to nearest stream

  • Solncel1: Soluble nitrogen annual average source load (kg/ha) [RO_NO3+RO_NH4+RO_OrgN+Perc_NO3+Perc_NH4+Perc_OrgN]

  • Solncel2: Soluble nitrogen annual average load (kg/ha) attenuated to nearest stream

  • Gwncel: Groundwater nitrogen annual average source load (kg/ha) [Perc_NO3+Perc_NH4+Perc_OrgN]

  • Sedpcel1: Sediment bound phosphorus annual average source load (kg/ha) [SedP]

  • Sedpcel2: Sediment bound phosphorus annual average load (kg/ha) attenuated to nearest stream

  • Solpcel1: Soluble phosphorus annual average source load (kg/ha) [RO_P+Perc_P]

  • Solpcel2: Soluble phosphorus annual average load (kg/ha) attenuated to nearest stream

  • Bodcel1: BOD annual average source load (kg/ha) [BOD]

  • Bodcel2: BOD annual average load (kg/ha) attenuated to nearest stream

  • Sedcel1: TSS annual average source load (kg/ha) [TSS]

  • Sedcel2: TSS annual average load (kg/ha) attenuated to nearest stream

In-Stream Routing:

Once the flow and load enter a reach segment, it is hydrodynamically routed through the downstream reach segments to the basin outfall, or boundary reach. The output from the simulation of this process is a series of files, one for each reach segment (calcreach) that reports on an average daily basis for the following constituents:

  • Stage (m)

  • Depth (m)

  • Vel - Velocity (m/s)

  • Flow (m3/s)

  • FlowOut(fraction) - fraction of the day that flow is leaving the reach

  • FlowOut(m3/s) - average flow rate out of the reach for that fraction of the day which flow is leaving the reach

  • TSS(ppm) - Out of the reach

  • SolNO3Out(ppm) - Soluble nitrate nitrogen out of the reach

  • SolNH4Out(ppm) - Soluble ammonia nitrogen out of the reach

  • SolOrgNOut(ppm) - Soluble organic nitrogen out of the reach

  • SolPOut(ppm) - Soluble total phosphorus out of the reach

  • SedNH4Out(ppm) - Sediment ammonia nitrogen out of the reach

  • SedOrgNOut(ppm) - Sediment organic nitrogen out of the reach

  • SedPOut(ppm) - Sediment total phosphorus out of the reach

  • BODOut(ppm) - Biological Oxygen Demand out of the reach

  • FlowIn(fraction) - fraction of the day that flow is entering the reach

  • FlowIn(m3/s) - average flow rate out of the reach for that fraction of the day which flow is entering the reach

  • TSSIn(ppm) - Total Suspended Solids into the reach

  • SolNO3In(ppm) - Soluble nitrate nitrogen into the reach

  • SolNH4In(ppm) - Soluble ammonia nitrogen into the reach

  • SolOrgNIn(ppm) - Soluble organic nitrogen into the reach

  • SolPIn(ppm) - Soluble total phosphorus into the reach

  • SedNH4In(ppm) - Sediment ammonia nitrogen into the reach

  • SedOrgNIn(ppm) - Sediment organic nitrogen into the reach

  • AvgdT(s) - Average time step used during hydrodynamic routing

Intermediary Files

Through the running of WAM, numerous intermediary GIS datasets are created some of which are useful for understanding how the flows and loads were routed to a reach. These can be very useful for making maps to illustrate how the physical processes were represented and included in reports.

  • Distance from source cell to stream

  • Distance from source cell to wetland

  • Distance from source cell to depression

  • Distance from wetland to stream

  • Distance from depression to groundwater stream

  • Distance from source cell to groundwater stream

  • Wetlands, show the cells that are wetland destinations for source runoff.

  • Wetland node, show the cells that drain through a wetland before they are routed to a reach.

  • Depressions, show the cells that are depressional areas and thus a destination for source runoff.

  • Depression node, shows the cells that drain through surface runoff to a depression.

  • Groundwater node, show the groundwater catchment area for each reach.

  • Stream node, show the surface runoff catchment area for each reach.
